Gull River Summit a Success!

Whitewater Ontario's Gull River Summit was held at the preserve's Roger Parsons Centre on Saturday, October 24th. Fourteen Whitewater Ontario members representing our various committees and disciplines met for a full day of discussion that focused on committee achievements for 2009 and preliminary planning for 2010. Full reports from our executive and directors will be given at our Annual General Meeting in Peterborough on November 7th. While the majority of our WO meetings are done via teleconference, meeting as a group was very important as we were also able to discuss other important topics such as the WO fleet of boats and insurance. By meeting at the Gull, our ability to work as a team was also strengthened with the common goal of using WO's Strategic Plan, Forward Strokes, as our guide for future plans and initiatives.

The final part of our planning meeting was a presentation by Jeff Strano and Neil Ross-Ross. Jeff and Neil presented an idea on behalf of  AO Boatwerks that proposes an arrangement between Whitewater Ontario and AO Boatwerks for the management of certain aspects of the Minden Wild Water Preserve. Jeff and Neil had previously presented the idea to the Preserve Committee which felt it had merit for further consideration at both the Gull River Summit and our Annual General meeting.

It is an exciting time for Whitewater Ontario. I would encourage our members to come to the AGM to celebrate some very significant accomplishments in 2009 and to learn more about our exciting plans for 2010. We are also looking to our membership for further participation in our committees or by joining us as a member-at-large.

Thanks to these dedicated Whitewater Ontario members for coming to this meeting at the Gull and not even getting near a boat!
