Bronze at the 2010 Green River Extreme Race - November 14th, 2010

Green River Narrows, North Carolina - Ottawa's Katrina Van Wijk and Chris Gragtmans finished third in their respective classes at last weekends Green River Extreme Race which is held annually on the Green River Narrows just outside of Asheville, North Carolina.

"The South East is one of the staunchest paddling destination in North America.  This is the home to many great whitewater kayakers, who put on this race free of charge" commented Van Wijk, "It (Green River race) is 4 minutes long of class 5 whitewater in a beautiful narrow gorge, and with the bigger rapids nearing the end, we are all feeling the burn as we stroke off of Gorilla Rapid (last and hardest section of the course) hoping to win the race."

Extreme racing is a new and exciting part of the sport of Whitewater canoeing and kayaking, and is gaining significant traction around the world with competitions being hosted throughout the year on nearly every continent. This year, the Green River race attracted 127 competitors and 7 women from New Zealand, Germany, Norway, US, and Canada! A new record for the race.
