We are very fortunate to be an Olympic Sport - which gives us access to Sport Canada and Coaching Association of Canada resources. After the Athens Olympics, CAC realized its current model of building world class athletes was not producing satisfactory results. In analyzing other nations, they too changed their focus from only supporting the top of the pyramid to helping build from the foundation level - they realized athletes start through recreational and community sports. The new Sports model has 3-pillars: Coaching / Instructor / Community Whitewater Kayaking mainly falls under the Instructor and Community (Trip Leader) pillars. These pillars have been re-developed over the past 3 years, to produce a very exciting new Instructor / Leader program for Whitewater Kayaking in Canada. Whitewater Ontario is a member of CanoeKayak Canada, and thus will be certifying Trip Leaders and Instructors under the new program.
Master Learning Facilitators oversee the program for each Sport. Learning Facilitator is the new term for Instructor Trainer. Instructors and Trip Leaders are the certified title once they have taken and passed the specific workshop and been evaluated with real students.
Paddle Canada has dropped it's instructor program, and adopted the CKC program, making for one national whitewater kayak program in Canada. Paddle Canada still remains the national certification boady for Canoeing and Sea Kayaking in Canada.
Whitewater Ontario, as a member of CanoeKayak Canada, Will be administering all Trip Leader and Instructor certification, but signing up for courses is done through the host organization.
2010 RECERT Exisiting Instructors are invited to re-cert into the new CKC program, and can participate in one of two recerts. Please send your proof of certification and $120 CKC certification fee (valid for 3 years) into Donna at
