Spencer Creek: Town Section
From Whitewater Ontario River Wiki
Contents |
Introduction
The Town Section of Spencer Creek runs right through the middle of Dundas and is bordered by concrete on both sides for the mostpart. This section is mainly Class III but the last drop creates a very retentive hole which should be avoided at higher levels and at these levels there aren't many eddies so be alert. Watch out for wood and shopping carts. It is easy to scout the drops as you drive to the putin as they are all under bridges.
Access
This river runs from January to April and can also come up with heavy rain.
Put in
Park and putin at Dundas Community pool. There are some small rapids upstream so you can walk upstream and put in higher up if you wish.
Take out
Take out at and park at Canadian Tire.
Rapids
Concrete Chute
The first rapid is a small concrete drop that channels into a narrow concrete chute. The water is fast moving through here.
Bridge Drop 1
The first drop appears under the first bridge and is straightforward.
Bridge Drop 2
The second drop is under the second bridge next to Metro. There is sometimes a good surfwave here.
Bridge Drop 3
Pre 2012: The third bridge drop is a 3 foot ledge that gets a rententive hole at highwater but can be easily boofed at low water.
As of March 2012: The drop here is formed by a metal retainer. The right side of the retainer has been removed so there is a good tongue on river right. There looks to be a possible surf spot here as well.
Sometimes some good catch on the fly playwaves appear between this drop and the takeout.
Length of run
This part of the run can take 1 to 2 hours depending on scouting and whether you walk or drive the shuttle.
