| Gull River Maintenance Weekend 2009 | |||

On behalf of the Preserve committee, thank-you to all those good souls who helped out at Sunday's annual fall clean up. It is this type of unselfish contribution that makes the overwhelming job of maintaining the Preserve containable. An extra big thanks goes to Paul Petric and Theresa Reinhart for showing up the previous weekend with a chainsaw and a full size front-loading tractor to fell a dozen or so trees from the group camping area. Hopefully, this will reduce the shade and let some much needed sunlight in to dry out the area and let some ground cover grow. I want to point out that Paul and Theresa don't paddle. They and their young family like to use the park and felt they wanted to contribute to its well being. A good example for us all! Sunday saw a large group tackle the job of hauling, sawing, splitting and chipping the fallen trees. Thanks to Andrew from KWP for figuring out the chipper. It sure made the piles of brush disappear in a hurry. The new woodshed is nice and full. The building also got a through cleaning from top to bottom. We finished the day with a BBQ (thanks for shopping and cooking Pat) and a paddle. Everything is put away for another season, waiting for next spring. If you couldn't make it out for this clean-up, try for the spring. We'll let you know. Again, thanks to all who lent a helping hand this year. You made the committee's job easier. Thank-you. See everyone on the water, Russ Lackey Director of the MWWP committee. |
