Ben Plumb

Ben has been paddling whitewater since 2010 and currently resides in Ottawa. In addition to being a whitewater paddler, Ben is a river engineer and fluvial geomorphologist, working as an environmental consultant. Through this profession he studies, designs and restores rivers to enhance fish habitat, mitigate flooding, promote sustainable infrastructure development and mitigate erosion risk.
In addition to helping the WO board with new and ongoing initiatives, Ben’s personal mandate while serving on the WO board is to share some of the knowledge he has gained through his studies and profession with the amazing paddling community. He will be organizing a series of fun webinars answering questions pertinent to paddling such as: How do gauge stations actually work? How can I use the hydrologic cycle to help predict when my favourite river will run? Why do rivers erode and change? What makes standing waves and holes?
