Competition in whitewater paddling is an individual sport within a very positive team atmosphere.  Since it is such a small community, athletes and beginners often get to know each other on a personal basis and support each other in learning skills, sharing rides, paddling and training tips.

While some athletes strive for provincial and national team, some athletes are just happy to come out and push their physical and technical skills.  It is not unusual for a newbie to be paddling alongside a friendly experienced competitor.
